Britain’s new prime minister, Liz Truss, has pulled the plug on her planned face-to-face meeting with President Joe Biden this weekend — while keeping appointments with several other heads of state ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday.
No reason was given for the apparent snub of the US president, which was announced by Truss’s office Saturday.
Instead, Truss will hold a bilateral meeting with Biden in New York on Sept. 21, when both are set to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
Her pre-funeral confabs with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Polish President Andrzej Duda are proceeding as planned, according to Politico.

El FBI de Estados Unidos investigó a Mark Fullbrook, actual jefe de gabinete de la primera ministra británica, Liz Truss, en relación a un supuesto esquema de "sobornos" durante la campaña electoral de 2020 en Puerto Rico, según revela este domingo el diario británico The Times.
Fullbrook, que ha liderado la campaña de Truss para ganar las primarias del Partido Conservador y asesoró antes a jefes de Gobierno británicos como Boris Johnson y John Major, ha formado parte de las pesquisas sobre una presunta "conspiración para subvertir la democracia" en la isla caribeña, administrada por Estados Unidos, indicó el periódico.
En abril, el Buró Federal de Investigaciones contactó con la Agencia Nacional del Crimen (NCA) británica y la Policía Metropolitana de Londres para llevar a cabo un interrogatorio formal con Fullbrook, que asistió de manera voluntaria.
Tras ser "obligado a entregar cientos de correos electrónicos confidenciales", el jefe de gabinete de Truss, que asumió el cargo de primera ministra hace menos de dos semanas, "ha firmado un acuerdo con el FBI y está colaborando como testigo" en la investigación.
Las pesquisas se centran en un presunto soborno por parte del venezolano Julio Herrera Velutini, banquero internacional y donante del Partido Conservador británico.
Velutini, de 50 años, supuestamente prometió a la gobernadora de Puerto Rico, Wanda Vázquez, 300.000 dólares (299.500 euros) para su campaña de 2020 bajo la condición de que despidiera al responsable de regulación financiera de la isla, detalla The Times.
El venezolano, que también tiene pasaporte italiano, no tiene el estatus necesario para hacer donaciones políticas en campañas estadounidenses, pero pudo entregar fondos a la firma CT Group, fundado por el estratega político Lynton Crosby, involucrado en numerosas campañas en el Reino Unido, para que hiciera de intermediaria.
Fullbrook, que entonces era jefe de proyectos globales de la firma, tuvo el control de esas operaciones, según el diario británico, lo que le ha implicado en las investigaciones del FBI.
