An icy blast continues to cripple parts of the US where more than 20 people have been killed amid the freezing conditions in the south.

Facebook has blocked news content from its platform in Australia in response to goverment plans to make digital giants pay for journalism. The bill is still being debated by the Australian Senate, which needs to pass it before it becomes law. The new rules are designed to help fund news organisations, who have been cutting jobs and scaling back operations in recent years. Also today, Air France-KLM says thousands more job cuts are to come after the airline group reported losses of more than €7 billion for 2020.

Clashes broke out in Barcelona, on Wednesday night, as protesters burned garbage containers and set up blockades, during demonstrations against the arrest of rapper Pablo Hasel.
The crowd clashed with riot police driving over demonstrators to disperse them, smashing barriers made up of containers. Some protesters hit with woods to police vehicles. Following clashes, firefighters started to put out the fires on the streets.
South Africa has launched its vaccination campaign as part of an observational study using shots from manufacturer Johnson & Johnson.
The government says it plans to give 500,000 of the single-dose vaccines mainly targeting healthcare workers.
It is the first country in the world to use Johnson & Johnson's jab against the more transmissible strain predominant in the country.
The vaccination is almost 60 percent effective against moderate to severe forms of the new variant.
