2/9: Former Pres Trump's second impeachment trial begins. The vaccine rollout is picking up speed.
Former President Trump goes on trial today in the U.S. Senate, as the first president ever to face impeachment after leaving office. The charge is inciting an insurrection, for directing his supporters to Washington last month on bogus election fraud claims, and then sending them to the Capitol, in his words, to "fight like hell.” During the trial, House impeachment managers will try to draw a direct link between the former president's words, and the actions of the mob. We take a closer look at the timeline of the riot and what investigators are learning. The House of Representatives is mourning Texas congressman Ron Wright. Health experts warn a coronavirus variant first detected in Britain will become the dominant U.S. strain in a matter of weeks, making vaccinations even more urgent. A hacking attack on a water treatment plant is raising big questions about the vulnerability of critical facilities nationwide. We learned overnight that Motown legend Mary Wilson has died.

Why Joe Biden Needs Bernie Sanders Now More Than Ever
In the heat of the 2020 Democratic primary a year ago, Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders represented starkly different visions for their party. When Biden finished a dismal fifth in the New Hampshire primary and Sanders soared to victory, many moderate Democrats were fearful that Sanders would run away with the nomination, and predicted that disagreements between progressives and centrists would undermine a Democratic victory, not only in the general election, but for years to come.

7:39 AM 2/9/2021 – Investigate The Investigators!
How many of the current and past FBI agents participated in the organizing, planning, and the execution of the Capitol Riot?
The estimates of the rioters with the military background is between 20 and 50%. What are the estimates of the rioters with the FBI background?
In my humble opinion, the FBI is the biggest and the most clear, imminent, and the present threat and danger to the American Democracy. It is the tool of the totalitarian suppression of Freedom and dissent.
Abolish the inept, incompetent, and brainless FBI! Investigate all the past and the current FBI CRIMES in depth, exhaustively and objectively. The FBI criminals should not have any part of the State Power!
Keep the FBI guard dogs on a short leash or this hungry bunch will devour you, this country, and everything in sight.

Alleged Oath Keeper leader Thomas Caldwell was former FBI agent with top-secret clearance, attorney says
Tuesday February 9th, 2021 at 7:19 AM
1 Share
Those details were revealed in a motion filed Monday asking a judge to let Caldwell out of custody, citing his long military career and ability to pass vetting for the high security clearance. His attorney also claimed that Caldwell has disabilities from his military service that would have prevented him from storming the Capitol.
The FBI did not immediately return an inquiry about Caldwell’s past employment status late Monday.
The claims about Caldwell’s high security clearance and FBI service add to concerns about extremism in the military and law enforcement. The indictments against numerous alleged rioters with military and police ties have led local agencies to launch investigations and the Pentagon to order each military branch to dedicate time to addressing the problem in the coming months.
“The presence of law enforcement officers in the riot reinforces and substantiates the greatest fears many in the public had in the nature of law enforcement in the United States,” Michael German, a former FBI special agent and fellow with the Brennan Center for Justice’s Liberty and National Security Program, told The Washington Post.
“It’s incumbent on the Justice Department, if it wants to restore that confidence, to act quickly” to hold the most violent Capitol rioters accountable, he added.

Why Larry Summers Still Triggers Washington. (It Isn’t His Economics.)
This article is part of the The DC Brief, TIME’s politics newsletter. Sign up here to get stories like this sent to your inbox every weekday.
There are a handful of personalities who can unilaterally trigger official Washington. Hillary Clinton is probably the boldest of the names on that list. But you can from time to time see former Presidents, former House Speakers — one in particular — and super PAC donors come forward with an unorthodox utterance or a glancing criticism.

That's the case House impeachment managers will attempt to prove as the second impeachment trial of the former president begins today. Also, we take a look at what many of those who have been arrested and charged with crimes related to the attack have said in their own words. And, why did Mexico's ambitious coronavirus vaccination plan fall apart?
